Permits, Rules and Regulations

Solid waste may be disposed of at the Town’s Solid Waste Transfer Station by permit.

Permits and transfer station rules and regulations are available at the Town Clerk’s office.

NO BLACK GARBAGE BAGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE FACILITY

All RECYCLABLE items must be properly separated and deposited in designated containers

  • CORRUGATED CARDBOARD —
    Does not include cereal or shoeboxes or tablet backing
    .
  • NEWSPAPER AND MAGAZINES —
    Including junk mail and office paper
    .
  • PLASTIC & GLASS RECYCLEABLES, METAL CANS & PLASTIC BOTTLES —
    The following may be mixed together: bottles, jars, food & beverage containers.
    Please remove caps and rinse containers clean.
    This category excludes the following: ceramics or pottery, drinking glasses, plate or window glass, light bulbs, Pyrex or heat resistant glass, foil or trays.
    Please do not leave items in bags.

  • SCRAP METAL:
    Items must have non-metal portions of wood, fabric, or plastic removed. Accepted items include:
    sheet metal, steel, metal cables, aluminum, copper, metal furniture, chain, rods, pipe & pipe fittings, bed springs, clean oil filters and NON-FREON containing appliances such as microwave ovens, ovens, stoves, toasters, etc.

  • PROPANE BARBECUE TANKS —
    Accepted only if the tank is empty and the valves and valve stems have been removed.
    .
  • ELECTRONICS, TV SETS, COMPUTER MONITORS, PRINTERS, & FAX MACHINES —
    These items are accepted, including are telephones, stereos, cell phones, DVD /CD & cassette players, etc.  Please bring all electronics inside the facility for proper disposal by an attendant.

  • CLOTHING —  All clothing and shoes in good condition should be bagged and deposited in the black bin next to the entrance of the facility.
    .
  • HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES —
    We only accept dry cell batteries including 9V, D, C, AA, AAA, Button & Lantern, Hearing aid, cell phone, etc. These are to be placed in the plastic buckets located on the right side of the building near the wall. NO acid filled batteries accepted; these must be taken to an automotive center or Solid Waste in Walton

Items Which Will Not Be Accepted:

Appliance including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers; carpets & carpet pads, mattresses, paints or toxic liquids, fluorescent or mercury bulbs, furniture, automotive tires or tubes, automotive batteries, or any construction debris.

These items must be taken to the County Dump in Walton or you can hire a dumpster or transport from one of several local providers.

Ask the attendant for a list of available options or consult your local phone book.
